First Friday Reception: October 5th, 6-9pm
“In 2011 I spent two weeks touring central Tibet, or as the Chinese government defines it ‘China’s Autonomous Region’. During that time I was consistently struck by the pervasive juxtaposition of opposing perspectives:
Chinese vs Tibetan
Opulence vs Poverty
Spirituality vs Secularism
Man vs Nature
Suffering vs Happiness
Illusion vs Reality
As a result, I came to realize how much our perception of reality is dependent on our own sense of identity, desires and conditional factors. What is true and real for me may be, in construct, an illusion for someone else. So then, what is the boundary between reality and illusion? Are they two opposing concepts, or are we only able to delineate between them based on their relationship to each other?”
