Erik Palmer captures the unique physicality of superheroes and the precarious existence of seemingly invincible beings who live only within the architecture of 32 or 64 pages of newsprint.
Erik Palmer photographs athletes, dancers, and naked people. He is currently completing a doctoral program in Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Oregon, where he conducts scholarship and research in the cultures of portraiture, fashion and superheroism. He also teaches photography and mass media at the University.
Palmer’s work is held in permanent institutional collections at Portland Art Museum and the University of Texas. He was also included in the Oregon Biennial in 2003. In commercial and editorial contexts, he has most frequently published photography in sports and fitness periodicals, including ESPN: The Magazine, Runners World, Sports Illustrated for Women and Trackwire Online.
