Janis Miglavs: Africa’s Undiscovered Myths & Personal Dreams

September 1, 2005

Wednesday Aug 31st, 2005 through Friday September 30th, 2005

September’s show features unique photo illustrations from Miglavs’ six-year project that was displayed through July at the United Nations. The work depicts the mysterious myths and life-altering dreams of remote endangered indigenous African tribes. Miglavs created photo illustrations from the detailed descriptions provided by chiefs, shamans, witch doctors and tribal elders. Miglavs records cultural stories and traditions never before heard by the outside world. The project will be published in book form with some of the contributing writers being Alice Walker, Wade Davis and Malidoma Patrice Somé.

Janis Miglavs is an internationally renowned adventure travel and commercial photographer with more than 25 years of commercial, editorial and corporate experience, photographing people and places in more than 30 countries. Miglavs has photographed and written for National Geographic, Travel Holiday, Sunset and National Wildlife, where he honed his skills in capturing poignant moments in people’s everyday lives and the splendor of nature.
