First Thursday Reception: May 3rd, 6-9pm
The fashion industry has become a major contributor to women’s views of themselves, and the overall expectations of them. Our media-driven society has universally accepted these ideals as a definition of women. Kevin Ellsworth has spent the past 34 years as a commercial photographer working in multiple facets of the fashion industry. This immersion and insider viewpoint has given him a unique opportunity to witness first hand the powerful effect this medium has on our cultural perceptions of beauty and the female form. His work represents a very personal exploration of his own thoughts and experiences around the concepts of beauty and our general cultural depictions of women. Each image in the series represents a visual metaphor and testament to the media’s objectification of women and the illusion of perfection that is impossible to attain.
We are requiring appointments before visiting and masks and social distancing are mandatory. Thank your for your understanding.
