Domestic Dreamscapes of the Mundane and Sensual Under the Watchful Eye of a Broken Clock

Opening Reception: June 3rd, 2022 6-8 pm

“Domestic Dreamscapes…” is a body of work made by the artist in a transitional period of her life. Encapsulating a time of false starts, a global pandemic, moving across the country post-graduation, and a season of drastically changing mental health, this series attempts to make sense of time itself as it passes.

In a statement from the artist, the work can be seen through the following excerpt of prose: “This is what the sun felt like in August. This is what the ground smelled like when fruit fell from the trees to sit in the heat and smash underfoot. This is what my skin felt like, what their skin felt like when we were 22 and 23. This is what it feels like to keep trying and keep getting a little better each time. This is what an hour feels like when you’re angry with me. Or in love with me. Or laughing with me. Time moves around and around and I can never catch it. This is what it look like when I try anyway.”

Natalie Jenks is a visual artist currently based in Portland, OR. She graduated with her BFA from the the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020. “Domestic Dreamscapes…” is currently on display at Blue Sky Gallery as a part of the PNW Drawers through April 2023. Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions throughout the midwest, as well as internationally in Ballyvaughan, Ireland. Her practice centers intimacy, the mind/body dichotomy, and human relationships within nature.
