White Lies She Told Me
DuBoise explores her complex relationship with her mother in her series entitled White Lies She Told Me, to be exhibited at Pushdot Gallery this coming October. Consisting of small-scale painted portraits, this series uses repetition of a central character that the artist has named “Umnia Vera,” translating to “faith faith.” These portraits speak to the artist’s experience of overcoming deep emotional trauma, pain, and adversity is her life. In this way, the pieces translate into self-portraits.
Duboise was born and raised in North Portland and is a self taught painter, currently studying at the Willamette University Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has been commissioned for multiple public artworks in Portland, and has an upcoming exhibition in January of 2022 as a part of receiving the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art BLM artist grant.
We are requiring appointments before visiting and masks and social distancing are mandatory. Thank your for your understanding.
