Steve Hansen: Monochrome Sextet

October 4, 2013 - November 27, 2013

First Friday Reception: November 1st, 6-8pm

” My artistic vision is simple. I search to capture either an obscure subject in incredible light or an infamous subject in a new light. I am constantly searching for new subject matter to photograph but I have never considered the grand vistas so well known to us as off-limits. When I approach a landscape that has been photographed a million times, I need to focus on what I bring to the table as a photographer and find a way to extract something new and extraordinary. Not an easy task to be sure, but one that I relish.

I love the thrill of hunting a subject for days and sometimes years to get the perfect shot and the thrill of capturing a gallery-worthy image after such an enormous amount of work, planning, and the occasional injury, is something I hadn’t felt with other artistic mediums. When I am working in the field, I often feel as though I am a portrait photographer waiting for the personality of my subject to explode through the lens when light and land collide in an amazing or unusual way.”

Steve Hansen is a fine art photographer based in the Pacific Northwest who specializes in creating panoramic images of the American landscape. Steve spent his childhood just outside of Seattle, Washington, and at an early age his artistic skills were being put to good use. Oils were his first artistic medium with which he learned to make incredible use of light, shape, and color which would later come in very handy. Completely self-taught, he began taking pictures with his father’s Canon AE-1 as a way to scout subjects for his paintings but what started as research soon turned into a full time obsession. www.stevehansenphoto.com
